Jesse Jackson criticizes TV broadcast of prison images on the fourth day of jury deliberations
In today’s session, Judge Melville, in an unusual move, announced that he intends to issue a statement. However, its content and the time of its release are unclear.
After the fourth day of jury deliberations ended, the jury returned home without issuing a verdict.
As in previous days, Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke in defense of Michael in the courthouse grounds and in front of reporters. He strongly criticized NBC for broadcasting cell images that would be shown for Michael in the event of a conviction, saying that this creates a psychological warfare for the jury members.
When asked whether Michael was upset by the broadcast of these images, he replied, “He doesn’t watch television.”
Rev. Jesse Jackson said that yesterday he spent four hours with Michael and his family in Norland, and then said:
“I come here as his friend and representative. I have known Michael since he was 8 years old.”
Jesse Jackson, who has also been a U.S. presidential candidate, called the rumor that Michael is stepping away from the American Black community “ridiculous.”
Reporters asked him about the rumor that Michael was being pushed out by the Black community after the rumor spread that he had “whitened” his skin.
Jesse responded, “The belief that Michael is not an American-African person is stupid and illogical. He is an American-African person. You can see his mother and father. This rumor is completely stupid and ridiculous.” He also said that Michael’s paleness is due to a skin condition.
He added that Michael’s defense attorneys were very careful not to mix this trial with claims of racial discrimination. Although there is no Black person among the jury members.
Joseph Jackson, Michael’s father, earlier today stirred up the courtroom by saying that his son has been subjected to racial discrimination.
