裁判23日目: 事件は陪審の手に委ねられる

昨日、検察官デビッド・ウォルグレンと弁護人エド・チャーノフが公判で最終弁論を行い、その後、大々的に報道された地球上で最も有名な人類の殺人事件は、結果を決定するために12人の陪審員に引き渡された。

今夜（ロサンゼルスでは金曜日の朝）陪審員が法廷に集まり、審議し評決を発表する。決定に至らなかった場合、次回の会合は月曜日に開催される。

法廷でエド・チャーノフは、マイケルが自分の死に責任があると述べ、自分の依頼人をマイケル・ジャクソンの被害者だと呼んだ。彼はこう尋ねた。

「もしマイケル・ジャクソンがいなかったら、コンラッド・マーレーは今ここにいただろうか？」

「コンラッド・マレーはマイケル・ジャクソンを殺さなかった。」

ウォルグレン検事は、死の前夜ダンスリハーサルで見られた健康でエネルギーに満ちたマイケル・ジャクソンの写真と、悲しむ３人の子供の写真を展示し、マイケル・ジャクソンはマーレー医師を信頼していたが、自ら命を絶ったと述べた。

Walgren painted a picture of a greedy, money-hungry person who was willing to endanger a human life in exchange for a $150,000 fee.

“Conrad Murray was thinking only about himself.”

Walgren said that Murray delayed contacting emergency services, which was one of the most bizarre decisions this doctor made. He explained that instead of helping Michael, Murray spent his time collecting drugs that could make him look guilty. And even after the paramedics arrived, Murray did not mention propofol, so that he wouldn’t appear responsible.

Walgren mocked the defense attorneys’ theory that Michael caused his own death by injecting himself with propofol, and dismissed the testimony of Dr. Paul White on the same matter as lacking credibility.

“What you heard from Dr. White was a bunch of scientific nonsense. It was just a doctor’s rambling.”

Walgren referred to the testimony of several specialist doctors who said they would never administer anesthesia to their patient at home. They called Murray’s actions a violation of medical laws and standards.

“No one had heard about injecting propofol inside a home until it happened to マイケル・ジャクソン. This is a gross negligence and the cause of マイケル・ジャクソン’s death.”

Walgren said that the defendant Murray’s behavior resembled a doctor who, with shameless arrogance and at the cost of his patient’s death, tested a medical theory on him.

“Because only マイケル・ジャクソン and Conrad Murray were in that room, part of the truth will never be revealed to us. But it is clear that Conrad Murray, who does not specialize in anesthesia, did not behave like a doctor and is not qualified.”

Walgren told the jury members that they must decide whether Conrad Murray acted with gross negligence in this case or not.

“He is criminally guilty of involuntary manslaughter. I ask you to return to court with a guilty verdict. Conrad Murray caused マイケル・ジャクソン’s death. Conrad Murray left him. Conrad Murray gave him propofol and left him alone. Conrad Murray is criminally responsible for マイケル・ジャクソン’s death. To achieve justice, your verdict must be that Conrad Murray is guilty.”
