Tribunale in Belgio: You Are Not Alone è un furto!

According to news reported yesterday in Belgian media, a court in the city of Brussels has ruled that the highly successful 1995 Michael Jackson song “You Are Not Alone” has many similarities to a song written by two twin brothers from the same country—two years before Michael’s song was released.

Last week, following this ruling, the court granted all the copyright of the number one song of the King of Pop—whose lyrics were written by R. Kelly—to these Belgian twins.

According to the media, these twins had fought for 12 years to obtain the copyright for this song. It should be noted that this court’s ruling is only valid in Belgium, and keeping the copyright for this work of art will certainly not be an easy task.

“You are not alone” is the second single from History — the album that received multiple multi-platinum certifications due to its very high sales — and one of the best songs by the King of Pop, released in August 1995. “You are not alone” was the first single that, after its release, entered straight into the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.

These Belgian twin brothers have written on their own website that the Belgian copyright association (SABAM) has confirmed that the most important and largest part of the Michael Jackson song is exactly similar to the song “Van Passels.”
