Prince Jackson’s comments about his father on the eve of his fifth death anniversary
"We want to keep our father’s legacy alive. He was the best father you could have. He raised us properly, and no one can do anything that will make us forget him."
These are the words of Prince, the 17-year-old son of Michael Jackson. Having attended the party after the premiere of the seventh and final season of the TV series “True Blood” in Los Angeles, he spoke in a rare interview with the New York Daily News about his father, his own dreams, and his plans.
He says that while he intends to follow in his father’s footsteps and move into producing and media work, he doesn’t want to get opportunities just because of his name—he wants to learn how things work first.
His dream is to one day become a director, and to reach that goal, he wants to start with acting and television work.
"I’d like to be a director one day. But to be a good director, you have to know how an actor works on set and how they feel. I want to learn the job before going behind the camera, and to experience working on TV shows and maybe films. You can’t take this lightly. Before you can take on work responsibilities, you have to make time to learn it."
Last year, Prince worked for a while as a reporter for the Entertainment Tonight network, and he also appeared as a guest actor in the series Beverly 90210. Prince said about his appearance on the A.T. network:
"Being on that TV show and doing interviews was really fun for me. I learned a lot of things. The feedback I received was also amazing. I want to have more experiences in this area. My plan is to work for television companies, like the work I did for Entertainment Tonight."
Prince added that when he was a child, his father encouraged them to act and to write scripts. He and his siblings often make home movies, although nothing from them has been released so far.
Alongside his media activities, Prince doesn’t forget his studies. He has an A average among the members of the elite student community in the United States, he works on making jewelry and robots, and of course he takes part in humanitarian activities and performs community service. He is also a martial artist and follows Muay Thai, Jujutsu, and boxing.
Prince became emotional when he remembered that Wednesday was the fifth anniversary of his father’s death.

He paused for a moment, then continued:
"It’s very hard. It’s his fifth death anniversary... yes... yes."
The young man continued by talking about his father:
"He was always worried about people and thinking about them. He helped many charities. The message in his songs is very simple: love. We will continue to spread his message."
When Michael Jackson died, it was only a few days before the opening of his big tour in London. Prince said that his father loved the city of London and had told them that he couldn’t wait to go there and live in that city alongside his children.
"He really wanted to go there and show us what he could do. He was waiting to show us around that city."
Prince’s younger sister attempted suicide last summer. Paris, who was suffering greatly from the grief of losing her father at age 11, hadn’t been able to cope with her problems. Since then, she has been studying at a residential school in Utah. When the reporter asked her about Paris, Prince refused to get into details and said:
"We’re all okay. Thank you for asking."
