Appeals Court Upholds Guilty Verdict Against Michael Jackson's Killer
Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson's personal physician, caused his death in 2009 and was convicted two years later, sentenced to four years in prison. He was released on parole a few months ago after serving only half of his sentence.
During his two years in prison, Conrad Murray constantly complained about his situation and, claiming innocence, appealed to the court of appeals to have his guilty verdict overturned.
Last week, three senior judges at the court of appeals determined that, despite Murray's claims, there had been no misconduct in the conduct of his trial, and that he had been correctly found guilty and sentenced to the maximum penalty for involuntary manslaughter.
The three judges, whose names were not disclosed, said there was sufficient evidence to find Conrad Murray guilty.
Regarding Murray's claim that Michael had injected himself with propofol and caused his own death, the three judges stated:
"This is merely a theory put forward by Conrad Murray. Conrad Murray's fingerprints were found all over the propofol bottle, and beyond that, he lied to police and provided false information."
"Murray's callous disregard for Mr. Jackson's health and safety was proven at trial through his conduct — including administering numerous dangerous drugs without appropriate medical equipment, without proper precautions and assistants, and leaving Mr. Jackson without anyone to watch over him."
"The evidence shows that Mr. Jackson was a vulnerable victim who had placed his trust in Conrad Murray. Murray, however, violated that trust by breaching medical standards."
