New documentary about Michael Jackson: Remembering Michael

mj-life.jpg

Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother, has made a new documentary about her late son, telling the story of the King of Pop’s life from her perspective and from the perspective of the three children he left behind.

“Until I was six years old, I didn’t know that his name was ‘Michael Jackson.’ For me, he was always ‘Daddy.’” Michael’s sixteen-year-old son, Prince, says this.

In this small documentary, Michael’s youngest child—whom we know as Blanket—talks about his dreams and big hopes.

“I want to put my effort to work and help Africa because it’s a very poor continent. There, many animals are killed by illegal hunters. I want to support endangered animal species.”paris-jackson-rm.jpg

Paris talks about their father’s actions to protect their privacy and security while they were still living on the Neverland ranch.

“We didn’t know a lot of kids. We didn’t leave the ranch very often.”

The documentary has been uploaded on Fundanything.com and will be shown only to people who pay $10 online.

Kirk Shenk, the producer of the documentary, says: “Mrs. Jackson wanted to make this documentary without any help from anyone, including the Michael Foundation.”

It appears from this documentary that Michael’s children are aware of how the public judged and condemned their father and his unconventional ways; because the eleven-year-old Blanket says:

“It’s not right to attack people’s privacy like that.”

Michael was a perfectionist; he had also taught his children to strive to be better.

Prince says: “He wanted us to always be better than everyone else.”

Michael taught his children life lessons, but not dancing and singing.

Paris says: “He promised he would teach me how to do the Moonwalk, but he never did.”

ABC television network aired parts of this documentary a few days ago—recorded over the past year or two. You can watch it below.

The documentary is almost finished, but it’s still incomplete and full of unseen images from Katherine’s personal collection and untold stories. Katherine says that because prices in the world of Michael Jackson are sky-high, she needs financial support to complete the project. She has put items with her son’s designs and logos up for sale on the website, saying that you can’t find anything like them in any store.

But the Michael Jackson Foundation doesn’t agree with Katherine’s idea of relying on fan donations to complete the documentary. In a statement they sent to fan websites, they said they had no role in this plan and that they oppose this method of fundraising:

“The Foundation will never ask fans to pay money to complete projects.”

The Foundation also reminded in its statement that the sale of Michael Jackson’s products is only possible through them and under official license.

The Foundation’s statement didn’t mention any effort to prevent the documentary from moving forward, but they promised that they will only offer high-quality, professional, completed plans that reflect Michael Jackson’s genius and humanity. They cited the documentary “This Is It,” the “Immortal” tour by Cirque du Soleil, and the show “One” as examples.

A Chinese businessman named Tetsunori Kunimmon, CEO of Poly Plants, is partnering with Katherine on this project.

On her website, Katherine wrote that she and Michael’s children have been working on this documentary over the past few years. She says their intention was to present a positive and dignified documentary as a tribute to Michael.

Another point about this project is that Howard Mann’s footprint can also be seen in it. Howard Mann had bought a warehouse full of the Jackson family’s household items. He entered into a partnership with Michael’s mother and brought the memorial book “I Can’t Say Goodbye” to the market. The Foundation sued him, and Mann was sentenced in court to pay $2.5 million.

Roger Friedman reports that Mann’s girlfriend and/or business partner, Sonia Lowe, is collaborating with Katherine on the new documentary. Lowe wrote on Twitter that this documentary was her idea. Since Lowe has worked with Mann on other previous projects, it’s likely that this time too Mann is involved in the new plan through Sonia.

Meanwhile, some fans are siding with the Foundation, while others are siding with Katherine. This new documentary is the latest example of the dispute between the Foundation and Katherine Jackson, and it seems the gap between the two is unbridgeable.

Katherine Jackson’s project needs $3.2 million to be completed, and so far nearly $4,000 has been collected through public donations on the website.
