Anthony Jackson Seeks Guardianship of Michael's Children
Anthony Jackson, the son of Michael Jackson's cousin, has filed a petition for custody of the King of Pop's three children with the Los Angeles Superior Court. In response, TJ Jackson — Michael's cousin and the children's current legal guardian — filed documents with the court asking that Anthony's petition be dismissed.
Tensions between TJ and Anthony Jackson had been building for some time. TJ has been co-appointed, alongside Katherine Jackson — the children's grandmother — as legal guardian of Prince, Paris, and Blanket Jackson since the summer of last year. Their relationship with TJ has consistently been described in the media as excellent.
In his petition, Anthony Jackson is seeking to strip TJ of his legal authority and assume guardianship of Michael's three children. Under Michael's will, Katherine Jackson — and in her absence, Michael's longtime friend Diana Ross — is designated guardian. Any change to this arrangement would require the approval of Katherine, Diana Ross, and most importantly the children themselves.
TJ Jackson wrote in his filing that Anthony's reason for pursuing such a petition is unclear, and that he and Katherine Jackson are doing an excellent job of raising and caring for the children, who are happy with their living situation.
