Today, Michael Jackson’s shows titled “One” (Michael Jackson One) opened on a trial basis at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. People from all over the world lined up to watch the first public performance.

MJONE then goes on stage as part of the “Immortal” tour. This tour is a 50/50 collaboration between the Michael Jackson Foundation and Cirque du Soleil. Ticket pre-sales began long before May 7. On that day, Cirque du Soleil opened the doors so media members could enjoy the new Michael Jackson One show. On that day, journalists and photographers were invited to the rehearsal hall to watch four of the show’s new segments. Also that day, the show’s writer and director, Jamie King, and the artistic director, Welby Altidor, appeared on stage before the program began and provided explanations to the audience. King and Altidor selected four of the show’s segments—just a sample of the many—from among the best to perform that night.
Reports published the next day in the newspapers described “Michael Jackson One” as stormy, energetic, creative, and exciting—and that’s exactly what the audience saw with their own eyes on May 23.

“One” is not only the biggest show ever staged in Vegas, but also the biggest and most expensive show in Cirque du Soleil history. No surprise that Cirque du Soleil has devoted its maximum ability and creativity to producing this show, because the Michael Jackson Immortal tour has already pushed the limits of this circus and set important records for it. Cirque du Soleil achieved records for the highest number of viewers and the best-selling shows in its history with the Michael Jackson Immortal tour.
Cirque du Soleil, which has always come on stage with its clowns, this time dresses the clever criminal and dances with a black hat. And as he said himself, when he wrote the song, he saw himself as the only person left on Earth, with a heavy sadness in his heart.

Since last year, when the
hologram of Tupac Shakur was used on stage in a concert, whispers about using this technique for Michael Jackson had been heard.
Holography is a method of imaging and producing three-dimensional images. Stored images are read by banks of light and laser devices. In other words, this technique brings the dead to life and places them before our eyes.
Forbes magazine wrote:
“On Thursday night, in the final minutes of the first public performance of MJONE, Michael Jackson appeared on stage as a hologram to sing ‘Man In The Mirror,’ while a small group of dancers twisted around him. During the performance, he descended on his knees and, before the song ended and he faded from view, he transformed into his childhood image.
His appearance on stage unleashed a wave of energy in a theater where every ticket had been sold. Breaths were held in people’s chests so their hope wouldn’t be shattered—the hope that this wasn’t magic or fantasy, but the King of Pop himself.
The same technique was used last year to bring Tupac Shakur to life on stage. Of course, the difference was that Jackson danced, but Tupac only rapped.”
Producing the show
According to Jamie King, the show’s director, the main question was: “If Michael Jackson was an acrobat, how would he dance?” The Las Vegas shows are meant to answer this question for the audience. These shows bring Michael’s personality traits—his cleverness, courage, energy, and love—to the stage using his songs and dances.
King says: “Michael Jackson was a storyteller and a showman. We all remember his unforgettable performances on MTV and other stages.”
The title “One” fits these shows. 70% of the long list of songs in this show are Michael Jackson’s number ones. Michael Jackson was one of a kind and one of the most influential artists in history. But above all, “One” is a symbol of the love and unity that was his dream—and in his life, in music, on stage, in his lyrics and songs, and in his humanitarian work, he worked toward it.
King says: “We are all equal. Whether we’re black or white, we’re equal. And when people leave the theater, I want them to feel that way, because that was Michael’s message until the end of his life.”
For the production of the Immortal tour, John Branca and the Michael Jackson Foundation provided Kevin Antons with the complete treasure of Michael’s songs. The songs were re-arranged so they would be suitable for use in the tour.
The sound system of the Mandalay Bay Hotel theater, where MJONE is performed, gives the audience an unmatched experience.
Antons says: “This time you’re not listening to the songs on a CD and in MP3 quality. Instead, you hear them the same way Michael and the recording engineers heard them while working in the studio.”
MJONE will officially and permanently reopen in Las Vegas starting June 29.
