AG Court Session 11: Travis Payne Talks About Michael Jackson’s Disturbing Relationship With His Children
Travis Payne said that when he went to Michael’s home in Holmby Hills for dance rehearsals, he saw that Michael enjoyed being a father. He encouraged his son Prince to become a director, allowed Blanket to be present in the dance rehearsals, and showered a lot of love on his daughter Paris. He ate lunch next to his three children.
"I saw the beauty of their relationship. I saw their loyalty to their father and Michael’s loyalty to them. Michael loved them and taught them. I was proud to see Michael as such a loving father."
Travis said Paris, who was 11 at the time, was "a very, very intelligent and sharp woman, with a very good memory."
"She knew everything about daily events, household chores, lunch time, and daily planning. She was independent—much more than her age. She had many responsibilities, and I think she was satisfied with that. She was the lady of the house—and of course a daddy’s girl. She truly loved her father. At that time she began to understand his global success and her father’s position. She used T-shirts, a forehead band, and a bag with pictures of her father on them. The children ate lunch with their father at home, and Paris was in charge of saying the prayer before meals. She was the spokesperson of the family and used her opinions more than the boys. She had many concerns about household matters—for example, making sure the temperature in the house was right, or what others wanted to eat. Given her young age, she had big responsibilities."
Travis described Michael’s relationship with his oldest son, the 12-year-old Prince, as "amazing".
"Seeing their relationship was joyful. Prince wanted to become a director. Michael talked to him about it and during our dance rehearsals reminded him of points."
Blanket, Michael’s youngest child, who was only seven when his father died, enjoyed watching his father rehearse in a studio in the basement of their home.
"He was quiet, but he was always there next to his father."
Earlier, the This Is It tour assistant producer, Elif Sanki, had spoken about Michael’s daughter. (Session 7)
Sanki said that in one of the rehearsal sessions, next to Paris, Michael’s daughter was sitting and chatting with her. Paris had a small handbag filled with candy and framed pictures of her father. Paris also asked Sanki not to reveal the secret of her candies to her father. Sanki said:
"The kids loved their father."
