MTV Award for the Thriller Short Film Goes to Auction

The award for Best Music Video of the year, which was given to Michael Jackson in 1984 for the short film Thriller, has been put up for auction by Nate D. Sanders' auction house.

Nate D. Sanders, the manager of this auction house, said: "Thriller is a Michael Jackson masterpiece, and none of the items up for auction— not even the Beatles, Elvis, Madonna and Rolling Stone awards—are expected to be able to compete with it. After the Thriller jacket which was sold two years ago for $1.8 million (News), this is the second most expensive Michael memorabilia we are putting up for auction."

The auction ends on April 2, and Sanders expects to pay more than $100,000 to obtain this valuable award. So far, the highest bid has been close to $11,000.

Also, Julien's Auctions will sell several other pieces of memorabilia from the King of Pop at an auction on May 18 this year at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York. Items related to Michael Jackson in this auction include: a signed pillow that Michael threw into a crowd from a hotel room window in Paris; the hat Michael wore onstage and gifted to a hood ornament; a special jacket for the "Beat It" video that was given in Neverland; the jacket Michael wore during his meeting with Nelson Mandela in 1999; the coat and vest the King of Pop bought during his stay in Bahrain in 2006; along with photos and other signed gifts by the King of Pop.
