Conrad Murray Won’t Testify

Los Angeles is expected to soon hold an official court proceeding to address Katherine Jackson’s lawsuit against AEG. Conrad Murray, the doctor who was responsible for Michael Jackson’s death and who had previously been reported to be summoned as one of the witnesses, has officially asked the court not to force him to do so. Apparently, Murray would rather share what he knows with television reporters than with legal authorities! In a statement he sent to Katherine Jackson, Murray said that even if he is forced to appear in the witness stand, at his lawyer Valerie Wass’s suggestion, he will use a legal immunity provision. This means he will not be required to answer any questions that would make him responsible for Michael Jackson’s death or that would relate to the prior court case dealing with the killing of the “King of Pop.” Following this statement, Katherine Jackson withdrew her request for Murray to appear in court. Murray was never questioned on the witness stand, and his statements to the police were full of contradictions. Marvin Putnam, the attorney for the company, said: “The Jacksons should forget about dragging Murray to the witness stand because Murray will tell the jury that he was hired by Michael Jackson, not by the company. And therefore there will be no blame on the company. The Jacksons can’t tolerate hearing the truth.” In response to Putnam’s remarks, Kevin Boyle, Katherine’s lawyer, said: “The company is lying. They can’t escape the fact that Conrad Murray, the great killer of the biggest artist in the history of show business, was hired by them.” The selection of jurors for the trial of this case will begin on April 2. Some sources say that Prince Jackson, Michael’s 16-year-old son, has expressed willingness to testify in court.
