Trumpet Player From The Jacksons: “Michael Jackson Was the Kindest Person I’ve Ever Seen”
Alan Prater, an American singer and songwriter, was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. In high school, he learned to play the trumpet and trombone, and then in the final years of his teenage period, he joined the young family group of the Jacksons, consisting of Michael and his brothers. From 1981 to 1985, Prater performed on stage alongside Michael Jackson, playing trumpet and trombone.
He recalls the memory of Michael’s death in 2009 with shock and disbelief:
“A friend called and said that Michael had passed away. I got CNN news and heard that it was true. Numbness took over me. I’m telling you, Michael Jackson was the kindest person I’ve ever seen in my life. He introduced me to Elizabeth Taylor and Liza Minnelli. After every concert, I would wait in the hotel room, and he would knock on the door. We would sit down and chat. He was always curious about other people’s lives. I always thought to myself that he would live forever.”
