Oprah Winfrey: Justin Bieber Is a Product of the Media

In October, Oprah Winfrey conducted an exclusive interview with teenage Justin Bieber, during which she said that there has never been a star like him on Earth—because in a short time, Bieber became hugely famous through Twitter, Facebook, and mass media.

On November 19, before the interview aired on television, she wrote on her Twitter that since the interview with Michael Jackson in 1993, she had never had such an interview again.

"Justin Bieber is the phenomenon of our time, and just like Elvis Presley, the Beatles, and Michael Jackson, he has millions of eager fans all around the world." She told Bieber during the interview: "There has never been a star like you!" When Justin asked what she meant, Winfrey explained—comparing him to legendary music idols:

"Many people compare your audience to the audience of Michael Jackson and the Beatles. Last night at your concert, the girls’ screams reminded me of my own experience at a concert by Paul McCartney (a member of the Beatles). These are enormous giants—icons that completely changed the face of the music of our time—but none of them became famous with the speed you achieved in such a short time. You are a product of mass media, so there has never been a star like you before."

In response to Oprah, Bieber politely thanked her.
