Lady Gaga buys 55 pieces of Michael Jackson memorabilia

Yesterday’s auction of some of Michael Jackson’s clothes and memorabilia ended with sales of $5 million—far more than expected by Julien’s Auctions. And the biggest buyer of the day was none other than Lady Gaga!

Gaga displayed a photo of herself on Twitter yesterday holding the auction catalog, standing next to her sign number 462.

In another tweet she sent from South Africa, she promised that she would take good care of these memorabilia.

"The 55-piece collection I gathered today—I will preserve it with care and expertise, in honor of Michael Jackson’s spirit and my love for him, his courage, and his fans around the world."

Gaga’s representative bought $1 million worth of Michael’s memorabilia at this auction.

Michael’s Bad Tour jacket was purchased for $240,000. Two of his sequined gloves each brought in more than $100,000. The outfit from the video Thriller sold for $156,000. A coat from the Dangerous Tour sold for $216,000, and the jacket Michael wore in an L.A. Gear advertisement also earned $204,000. A set of golden tour clothing from HIStory sold for $65,000.

Part of the proceeds from this auction goes to charitable foundations in the United States.

eMJey: Although it’s very hard to bear the sale of Michael Jackson’s beautiful memorabilia and clothes, we hope that the Michael Jackson museum promised by his foundation will soon become a reality. We know that some of the outfits that were initially put up for sale were donated by Michael Bush to the Michael Jackson Foundation, and therefore they were not sold in the auction from the past two days—but it’s not clear which of the King of Pop’s clothes ended up in the foundation’s hands. Michael was accustomed to keeping a copy of his clothes with himself, and we hope that similar copies of valuable and memorable jackets—such as the one he wore during his visit to the White House—are in the hands of his foundation and his family. Also, according to Michael Bush, his tour outfits were made in different sizes, so there should still be several sets of golden HIStory outfits and more.
