Joe Vogel Appears in the BAD 25 Documentary

(16-11-2012) Author Joe Vogel appears several times in the documentary "BAD 25", which will be aired on US TV (ABC) on Thanksgiving.

Vogel, a doctoral candidate at the University of Rochester, was one of director Spike Lee’s consultants on the film. He is the author of several books on Michael Jackson (e.g. 'Man in the Music: The Creative Life and Work of Michael Jackson'; for further details please see our Book section) and is also a walking encyclopedia of facts about Michael.

Some of Joe Vogel’s insights include:

• Michael wanted "Bad" to be tougher and edgier than "Thriller." He worked with Run DMC on a collaboration that didn’t make it into "Bad."
• While working on "Bad," he put a piece of tape on his mirror that said "100 million," and he would look at it every day. It was his goal for record sales—he wanted to double what he sold for "Thriller."
• In the studio, Michael recorded in semi-darkness.
• He wanted his whole career to be the biggest show on earth. He handed out copies of P.T. Barnum’s autobiography to people and worked on ways to get people’s attention.
