Ballet Dancer Regrets Not Learning Monwalk

Darcey Bussell, the 43-year-old ballet dancer, former member of the Royal Ballet, and current judge on the British dance competition Strictly Come Dancing, despite her impressive talent and success in dance, has never been able to master Michael Jackson’s famous foot dance, the Moonwalk. In a recent interview, she said:

“Michael Jackson was one of the lights on my path. People talk about his music, but he was also a phenomenon in dance. When the trailer was released, I was fourteen, and the trailer video’s dancing made my head spin.”

Bussell believes that Michael is part of dance history:

“In my opinion, he continued a dance style that was started by Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Despite hours and hours of constant practice, I never learned his signature in dance (the Moonwalk) as well as I wanted.”
