Michael Jackson Foundation announces plans for a museum

In its latest statement sent to us, the Michael Jackson Foundation responded to fans’ concerns about the auction and the sale of Michael’s clothes, and implicitly hinted at the establishment of a museum to preserve and display the King of Pop’s memorabilia:

"Michael Jackson always gave memorabilia of himself to friends, fans, sick children he met, and other people he encountered throughout his life. As a result, the Foundation does not have ownership of all of his items and clothes. Many people now have pieces of Michael Jackson’s memorabilia in their possession, and these items are in their personal ownership. The Foundation cannot interfere in decisions that any citizen makes regarding their personal property.

Although, as a result of Michael’s generosity, the Foundation does not have all the items and clothes he wore, all Michael fans can be assured that the memorabilia left behind by Michael—whether clothes or other items whose ownership is in the Foundation’s hands—is so abundant that a museum can be built for fans to enjoy seeing them and to keep his memory fresh.

All fans who visited the Michael Jackson exhibition in Las Vegas last year saw this with their own eyes. All the items in that exhibition were—and still are—in the Foundation’s possession; and even many of the items available in that exhibition had not been on display.

Although it’s still early to do so, the Foundation is eagerly waiting to share its plans with fans at the right time."
