The DVD of Michael Jackson’s Bad Tour concert at Wembley, released on September 18, topped the list of best-selling DVDs in the United States and several other countries a week later.
Before the start of the concert, Michael had met the British royal family—Princess Diana and Prince Charles—backstage in the presence of reporters and photographers. He gave Princess Diana a special tour staff jacket along with three discs from his albums, and he also donated $450,000 to her charitable foundation.
On that day, conversations took place between these three people, and years later Michael brought the memory of that day to life in his home movies (Private Home Movies - 2003).
"Princess Diana spoke to me in a corner. I saw that Prince Charles was looking at me. Princess Diana asked whether I would perform the song ‘Dirty Diana’ tonight. I said, ‘No, we removed that song from the set out of respect for you.’ She said, ‘But it’s my favorite song.’ I said, ‘Are you kidding? Do you expect me to sing Dirty Diana while you’re sitting among the crowd?’ At that time, it was too late to put that song back on the set list because the concert was about to begin. Prince Charles came toward us and asked, ‘What are you talking about?’ She (Diana) said, ‘Oh, nothing’... There were other stories too, but (laughs) I don’t want to talk too much... She was an amazing, kind, and caring person. She truly cared about others; her activities weren’t for attention. I feel the same way about children and their future."

Diana was a charitable lady, but like all big stars, her private life had more appeal to the public and the media. Reporters and photographers followed her all the time, and this is how Diana became the most photographed woman in the world—just as Michael Jackson is the most photographed man in the world. The photographers didn’t stop following Princess Diana until the moment of her death on August 31, 1997.
Diana died in a car that was being chased by these photographers. Michael believed that living under the media spotlight was one of the things they had in common.
The King of Pop canceled one of the tour concerts because of Princess Diana’s death and dedicated his concert in Belgium to her. He also attended the memorial ceremony held for Diana in Los Angeles on September 14, 1997.
