Spike Lee and Branca talk about upcoming projects: a life film, a documentary, and a 3D concert
After success in Venice, the documentary Bad 25, which was shown last week at the Odeon Cinema in London, was screened in London’s Odeon Cinema. Spike Lee and John Branca took part in a Q&A session after finishing the film.
During the session, Spike Lee announced that making a film about Michael Jackson’s life is impossible because no one would be able to play him. “Who should play him? Making this film is beyond me—maybe others can, but I can’t. Making such a film about less well-known characters is easier, but Michael is one of the most famous men on Earth—and who could possibly play him?”
John Branca, who shares the same view, also said that such a project is not underway and will not be. Of course, earlier Variety reported that the foundation was in talks to make a film based on Michael’s life. Maybe some still believe that Johnny Depp could pull off this difficult role.
But the good news is that the intimate documentary and the HIStory documentary are likely on the way as well. Branca said that HIStory is his favorite album and that he would like Spike Lee to also make a documentary about this album—though first, the Dangerous documentary must be made. The Bad foundation wouldn’t mind having a documentary made about this dangerous album too.
