Bergman: Michael Jackson Wasn’t of This World
Serbian fashion designer and star Rushka Bergman collaborated with the King of Pop on a 2007 photoshoot of Michael Jackson for Vogue, via photography, and that was the beginning of a three-year relationship.
She has recently completed an interview with the Daily BEst, which you can read below: For the interview, she wore red, sparkling boots in honor of her dear and beloved friend, Michael Jackson.
It hasn’t been long since that day. On a beautiful Christmas morning, Bergman and Michael were singing opera to each other over the phone. Later, they collaborated with the biggest names in the fashion industry, including Christophe Decarnin from Balmain, Chris Van Assche from Dior Homme, and Tom Ford, to design the costumes for the tour This Is It that was never carried out.
Rushka Bergman describes Michael Jackson as a genius—no, not a genius!—with a thick English accent.
Ask Bergman’s age and she answers you with a smile on her glossy red lips: "28, always"—she isn’t 28, and she doesn’t even try to be.
"I think my facial wrinkles are attractive," Michael Jackson instructed her never to get Botox injections to remove them. Bergman says: "Botox ruins people’s souls."
As a child, she grew up under communism and studied economics at university. Once she found confidence in life and went into fashion, she doesn’t understand why everyone wants to stay in their twenties.
"I can proudly tell you that at twenty I was very raw and immature."
She says the fashion world has become chaotic: designers have lost their voice, and all you see is copying in their work. She turns back on the stars who decide to become fashion designers themselves and hopes they stop trying to do that. Lady Gaga is one of those stars. What does Bergman think about her? "I don’t think so."
Bergman has worked with the most prominent faces, but none of their talent and genius can match her greatest love: Michael Jackson.
Bergman describes him as not belonging to this world: "He didn’t belong to this planet."
At first, their love for the art of the sixteenth century brought them together. Michael teased her because Bergman didn’t have any of Michael’s songs on her iPod. Bergman collaborated with him without signing a contract and saw him naked many times. She confirms his skin disease (vitiligo, which led to his whitening), praises his energy, and is still in shock over his death.
"He only showed me his beauties."
She is currently busy putting together a museum of Michael Jackson’s collection. She has also become interested in technology. She shows our interviewer a photo of Michael’s three children—Prince, Blanket, and Paris—wearing an AC/DC band T-shirt, which her friend sent to her iPhone at exactly the same time.
