Afrojack talks about his BAD25 remix experience

You can hear Afrojack’s new remix of Michael Jackson’s BAD song here. In the BAD25 collection, two new remixes of BAD will be released, and both were produced by this 24-year-old Dutch DJ. Afrojack has recently spoken about his experience working on this track by Michael Jackson. He says that at first he was hesitant to accept the job offer. "When the offer was made, I said I don’t want to work on this song at all—after all, it’s a Michael Jackson song! Of course it’s an honor for me, but I told them, are you really sure? I made excuses that my schedule wouldn’t allow me to work, and they did everything they could to get me into the game. They even got me a plane so I could go to the Los Angeles studio where the songs were recorded. (Westlake Studios—the studio where BAD was recorded 25 years ago) I sat at the desk, took a deep breath, and told myself, what the hell are you doing? It was horrible. He’s gone— the biggest pop music legend in all of history. People will say that with this remix I disrespected him, or that my work is nauseating, or that I had no right to touch his works." Michael’s family and his Foundation personally contacted Afrojack: "I accepted, and I tried to make a remix for 2012 and the new generation. Many people have welcomed it, and the family also liked it and insisted that it be released as a single—which makes me very happy." Afrojack says the family and the Foundation chose him for the reason that they know he’s at the peak of his career, and also because Michael wanted to work with young people and new talent. "I’m sure that when his family says that this is what Michael wanted, then yes—this is really what Michael wanted. This was done only out of respect for Michael Jackson. That’s it."
