Adam Ant on his experience with Michael Jackson

Adam Ant (آدام انت)، the 57-year-old English singer who rose to fame in the 1980s with the band Adam and the Ants, has recently spoken about his experience of meeting Michael Jackson for the first time.

In the early years of the 1980s, when he was touring for his successful album Kings of the Wild Frontier (release year: 1980), he was invited to the Jackson family home in Haynehurst. “I was on tour when, one day at 5:30 in the morning, I received a phone call. Someone on the line said, ‘Hi, I’m Michael Jackson.’ I thought it was a joke from Chris, the band’s drummer. I told him it was fine and hung up. He called again, and I hung up again. Then Quincy Jones called and said, ‘The person who called was Michael Jackson.’ They were busy recording a trailer and wanted to ask me how the album Kings of the Wild Frontier’s drums were done. I told him to speak to the band’s drummer. And then I received another call; this time he asked where I had gotten my jacket from. I told him, and he went and bought one similar to theirs.”

Adam Ant wore the jacket mentioned in a photo printed on the cover of the Wild Frontier album.

“That jacket was for the English cavalry soldiers, and I’d bought it from Bermans store in London. I had a friend who worked there, and I sent Michael to him. My friend told me, ‘I want Adam Ant’s jacket,’ and they sold him one.”

“I went to Los Angeles and was invited to his family home. He was still living there with his mother and father. All his sisters and brothers were there, and I spent the whole day wandering around with the snakes and lamas in the area.”

“When he performed ‘Moonwalk’ on stage for the first time (Motown 1983), I was there. That night he killed it.”

“I have a lot of respect for him.”

After seventeen years, Adam Ant is currently working on producing a new album this year, and he says that Michael Jackson inspired him to return to the world of music:

“After Michael passed away, I watched the film This Is It in London. It was a good film. I thought to myself that so many stage directors have gone. You can only keep doing this until a certain age. I’m completely healthy, and I thought that now is the time when I should go back to the stage.”
