TMZ admits its mistake

TMZ wrote: “Janet Jackson didn’t slap Paris, and she didn’t curse at her. Paris also didn’t confront her.”

Last week, Janet, Randy, and Jermaine went to the Calabasas home and tried to transfer Michael’s children to Arizona despite the children’s wishes. Paris and Prince confronted them and drove out the Jacksons’ security forces. The footage of what happened—recorded by surveillance cameras—made its way to the media. The video had no audio, but TMZ wrote some interesting dialogue for it. According to TMZ’s experts, a heated and insulting conversation had taken place between the parties. TMZ’s story spread like a virus across various news agencies, including the New York Post.

Yesterday, TMZ wrote: “We published the news based on what a source told us, and we believed it was true. But in reality, it wasn’t.”

Janet Jackson’s lawyer said she intends to sue the source that released the rumor, because her profession has been seriously harmed as a result.

Roger Friedman, who also doesn’t have much love for TMZ, said:

“This should be a lesson for other news outlets not to copy TMZ’s content onto their websites without doing any research. Janet Jackson has a gentle personality. Paris was raised by her father to be so polite and well-behaved that it’s unlikely such profanity would come out of her mouth—let alone that she would say it to her aunt.”

But this false story led many people to judge Paris unfairly. One example is Goldies Knight, who insulted Paris Jackson on national television. He said that if he were in Janet’s place and heard Paris say such things, he would smash her teeth in her mouth, because “southerners” raise their children like that. Not only did he publicly insult and attack a minor, he also promoted physical violence against children. Even if Paris had cursed at Janet, would 68-year-old Goldies Knight have any right to openly go to war against a 14-year-old girl? Or would Janet have the right to slap Paris in the face?
