An Open Letter from the Fan Community in Support of the Michael Jackson Estate

MJJC, the biggest Michael Jackson fan website, which has also been officially selected as the best website supporting an artist, has written an open letter and asked websites and blogs that agree with its content to sign it and publish it. The text of the letter is as follows: "The fan community has learned that some members of Michael Jackson’s family have made offensive statements against the trustees of his estate. We are saddened and shocked that instead of using proper and legal tools, they have turned to propaganda to stir up feelings of sympathy and compassion in us. We firmly support the heirs of the estate: Katherine Jackson and Michael’s children, but at the same time we also support the estate trustees, Mr. John Branca and Mr. John McClain. Fans know well that Branca and McClain have taken a difficult path since Michael’s passing. We’re talking about a $400 million debt, and piles of unresolved lawsuits and legal complaints. Yet the trustees took control of the affairs and got things started. The film “This Is It,” the best-selling music documentary in cinema history, two successful albums, a number-one tour: “Immortal” by Cirque du Soleil, a video game with multi-million sales, and an upcoming project for the 25th anniversary of the release of the album “Bad”—these have all been among the estate’s actions after Michael’s death. Although not all fans agree with every decision made by the estate, overall we believe that the estate has done an excellent job protecting Michael’s legacy. Like the estate, we believe that “the recitation of false and insulting claims rooted in internet conspiracy theories” has no connection to the ethical principles Michael was committed to. Over these three years, the estate has been progressing; debts have almost been settled, and Michael Jackson’s music continues to dominate the entertainment industry. We sincerely express our support for Michael Jackson’s latest wishes and desires. He placed responsibility on the shoulders of John Branca and John McClain, and the Michael Jackson fan community, with goodwill and generosity, thanks his estate trustees for continuing this path.
