In the statement, Pepsi said: “To honor Michael’s extraordinary contributions to pop music, Pepsi, Sony, and the Michael Jackson Foundation are joining hands to offer fresh mixes of songs from the album Bad to fans around the world. This proves that the King of Pop is not only the most iconic artist of the 20th century, but also continues to influence 21st-century music.”

Pepsi is set to bring 1 billion soda cans featuring Michael Jackson’s design to the market.

These drinks have been distributed in China starting today. Along with China, the United States is among the first countries where Pepsi soda cans with Michael’s design will be sold. These cans will also be distributed in 20 other markets across Asia, South America, and Europe.

Pepsi will also hold online competitions, awarding winners jackets featuring the Bad tour design and tickets to Michael Jackson’s Immortal tour. To this end, from May 15 to June 14, fans in China can submit images of their Michael collections and/or artworks created with inspiration from Michael Jackson into the competition, so that if they win, they can receive free tickets to the Immortal tour in China.

Frank Cooper, head of marketing for Sony, said:

“Michael Jackson will always remain the King of Pop. His music has always inspired fans and other artists. This new collaboration is more than just a revisit of past memories—it engages fans around the world. In this way, they can maintain their connection to Michael’s music and celebrate his legendary impact on the entertainment industry.”

John Branca and John McClain, heads of the Michael Jackson Foundation, said about their new collaboration with Sony:

“We’re excited that Michael and Pepsi have come together again, just like in 1988, and that to mark the 25th anniversary of Bad and the Bad tour, 1 billion Pepsi soda cans featuring Michael’s photo will be released—and maybe we can even set a record in the Guinness Book of World Records.”

They also expressed gratitude, after Pepsi’s statement, for the positive reaction from fans to the idea:

“We appreciate the positive response from fans to this morning’s statement by Pepsi. Michael had signed three successful contracts with Pepsi: the Victory Tour, the Bad Tour, and the Dangerous Tour. Michael would have been very pleased that we are setting a global record by offering soda cans with his image printed on them. This campaign will be a fitting celebration for the 25th anniversary of BAD.”
