Michael Jackson Wanted to Be Spider-Man

Michael Jackson was a fan of Marvel Comics, the company that produces comic books (comic strips).

Last year, you read about his desire to play in an X-Men movie in this article. Recently, Stan Lee—Marvel’s former representative and president, and the creator of characters such as Spider-Man, the X-Men, Hulk, and many others—spoke about Michael Jackson’s interest in playing Spider-Man.

At 89 years old, Lee has also played short roles in every film made from his comic books. In an interview with Moviefone.com, he said:

Question: The most interesting thing I’ve heard about the X-Men movies is Michael Jackson’s desire to play Professor X.

Stan Lee: I didn’t know that Michael wanted to play Professor X in this film. Based on the conversations I had with him, he was interested in being Spider-Man. That was an interesting character for him. He never talked to me about the X-Men.

Question: How do you think he would have looked as Spider-Man?

Stan Lee: I think it would have been good. I think he would have handled the role very well. But I have to say that Tobey Maguire looked great in that role.

Question: The fact that Michael worked with Stan Lee Media (an advertising and internet entertainment production company founded by Stan Lee in 1998) and in the 1990s tried to buy the Marvel company is very surprising to me.

Stan Lee: Yes, he wanted to do that. He thought it was the only way he could play Spider-Man (laughs).
