Michael Jackson on Time’s List of 100 Fashion Icons

Time magazine has published its list of 100 enduring figures from the world of fashion. The list includes the 100 models, fashion photographers, designers, experts, and influential idea-makers who have lived from the magazine’s beginnings in 1923 up to today.

It’s no surprise that Michael Jackson is also included as an influential figure in the history of fashion. Time wrote about him:

“A white sequined glove, a leather trailer jacket, and loafers that let him fly across the stage with otherworldly power...

It’s not random that we connect the different eras of the King of Pop’s career to his style of dress. But when it comes to Jackson’s aesthetics, what impresses us most is that his clothing was never crafted for a specific purpose. His wardrobe—though dazzling—was never an exaggerated statement of his political or artistic leanings. Like his music, his style is a picture of a brilliant, intertwined introverted artist, with a strange and overwhelmingly large talent.

His style and clothing were, in the absence of a word that could describe it, worthy of a king.”
