Catherine Jackson and the Kids Answer Questions

You know that Catherine Jackson has filed a lawsuit against AEG, the company responsible for staging Michael’s This Is It concerts in London. Catherine blames this company for Michael’s death. The King of Pop was preparing for the London concerts and died only a few days before the tour began.

Conrad Murray, whose “gross negligence” caused the King of Pop’s death, worked as his personal physician. Catherine says this doctor was hired by AEG, so the company is responsible for her son’s death. However, the company’s lawyers say that since Murray was not hired by AEG, Catherine’s lawsuit has no legal standing. On the other hand, it has been reported that the Jackson family’s lawyers have two former company employees available as witnesses. They claim that Murray was hired by the company as Michael Jackson’s doctor.

On Tuesday, at AEG’s request, the court ordered Catherine and Michael’s three children to cooperate with the court by answering questions, in order to clarify more details about this case. These questions are being raised by the company. Marvin Putnam, one of the company’s lawyers, expressed satisfaction with the court’s ruling.

Kevin Boyle, one of the Jackson family’s lawyers, said that until now, it wasn’t possible for Michael’s children to cooperate with the court because this matter was heartbreaking and difficult for them, but they are now ready to provide the court with more information. Boyle, however, called AEG’s questionnaire a “clear example of defensive tactics” and said that some of the questions posed to Michael’s children were extremely private. For example, they were asked whether they had written in their daily notes anything about their father intending to commit suicide.

A lawyer for Catherine Jackson says the family might appoint a neutral truth-finding referee to look into the case. This referee could provide their findings to the judge. Jessica Estevez, a lawyer for the company, doesn’t think such arbitration is necessary, but says that if both sides agree on a person as the referee, the company might accept the idea.

The next court session has been scheduled for September 10. Catherine had filed the lawsuit against the company in September 2010 on her own behalf and on behalf of Michael’s three children, for whom she serves as guardian: 15-year-old Michael Junior (Prince Michael), 14-year-old Paris Katherine Michael, and 10-year-old Prince Michael (Blanket).
