Pepsi soda cans with Michael Jackson’s design headed to the market

Pepsi and Michael Jackson have a long history together. The company was a supporter of Michael’s Bad and dangerous tours. The King of Pop recorded many creative and musical commercials for the company, and because of his activities, Pepsi for the first time surpassed its rival Coca-Cola. Pepsi now plans, in cooperation with the King of Pop’s foundation, to offer a special tribute to him on the 25th anniversary of the album Bad (released on August 31, 1987). On August 31 this year, soda cans featuring Michael Jackson’s design will be available in stores. These 99-cent cans have a blue background and feature an image of Michael Jackson dancing on them. michael-jackson-pepsi-1.jpg Michael’s relationship with Pepsi dates back to 1984 and the birth of the advertising campaign “New Generation.” On January 27 of that year, while filming a commercial for this campaign, Michael’s hair caught fire due to a miscalculation by the production team, and he suffered severe second- and third-degree burns. Doctors at Brotman Hospital said his survival was a miracle. Pepsi paid Michael a $1.5 million settlement, and he spent all of it on setting up high-pressure oxygen room technology at Brotman Hospital to treat his burn wounds. At the time, false allegations of child abuse against Michael were raised—though later, with the discovery of a recorded conversation tape from the accuser’s father, it became clear that the allegation was a scheme to extort Michael. The case was never taken to court. When the allegations against Michael were brought up, Pepsi ended a 10-year friendship with him. Michael became addicted to painkiller pills due to the pain from a surgery performed on his head, and doctors considered continuing the Dangerous tour too risky for his health. During the burn incident while filming the Pepsi commercial in 1984, he lost part of his hair, and to regrow his hair, it was necessary to remove the extra skin that had formed on his scalp during surgery. Michael then announced that he had become addicted to painkillers and went to the UK for treatment. Source: eMJey.com / tvweek
