Michael Jackson’s Chef Writes a Book

Kai Chase, a well-known chef, also has experience working in Michael Jackson’s home. She cooked for him and his children at Michael’s last home in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles.

Chase is busy publishing a book titled “Fit for a King,” dedicated to the final days of Michael Jackson’s life. The book is expected to hit bookstores by the end of this year.

Kai Chase has cooked for many different people, from readers to Mary J. Blige to the president, Barack Obama. But when the name Michael Jackson comes up, the conversation changes. She says Michael had a profound impact on her life. “When you read the book, you’ll see how different he was from the image the media was creating. I cooked for him and his children. He was practicing for the tour (This Is It) or going to the recording studio. He was full of energy and in good spirits.

In this book, I want to talk about the happy moments and the jokes he would make with me. I was planting flowers in the garden with his children. I saw him every day, and he talked to me about many things—both as a boss and as a friend—about my progress at work, writing the book, and other matters.”

Chase took some time off from her job for a while, but later returned. The day Michael died (June 25, 2009), she had gone to his home to cook.

Since Michael’s death, she has gained more fame and cooks for even more high-profile people. Chase believes these are blessings she has received through Michael.

“God’s blessings and grace flow down to me from the sky. Sometimes I think it’s all because of Michael, and I imagine that he and God are giving each other thanks.”

In addition to Chase’s memories with Michael and his children, the book also introduces the King of Pop’s favorite dishes. These dishes mostly included fish and salad. Michael insisted that his children eat healthily.

Chase says Michael advised her that after his 50 concerts in London (This Is It) ended, she should write a cookbook. Chase was supposed to go to London with Michael and his children for the tour.

Chase continues: “He was an inspiration to me.”

Kai always listens to Keep the Faith (from Michael’s Invincible album) because: “It motivates and inspires me to do my best work.”

After Michael’s death, Kai Chase, in an interview, recounted her memories of the King of Pop, which you can read here. She also talked about the food she prepared for Michael and his children, which is available on this page. She was also a witness in Michael’s murder trial, and last year she appeared in court to give testimony—what she said can be read here.
