Michael Jackson’s Chef and His Children

you read that Kai Chase, Michael’s former chef, is busy publishing a book about her memories.

Kai also has many memories with Michael’s children. Previously, she talked about Michael’s Happy House and his three children.

Once, the kids gave her a “joy box.” The box was beautifully decorated and filled with thank-you letters and photos.

In one of these letters, Paris wrote to Kai:

“Thank you for the beautiful gifts you gave us. Oh, by the way, I’m writing this letter with one of the pens you gave me. I hope you like the gifts and the photos. Thank you for the gifts you gave to P and B (Prince and Blanket)—they really liked them.”

Kai also received a shared gift from Michael and his children.

“One day Michael handed me a gift box and said, ‘This is for you, from me and the kids.’ He gave me an iPod because his children told him that I still use a Walkman. The album Thriller 25 was also included on it.”

Back then, Michael was busy rehearsing for the This Is It concerts. He wanted Kai, their chef, to be in London, but he decided to ask his 12-year-old son, Prince, to invite Kai to the tour on his behalf:

“Prince told me that ‘Daddy asked me to tell you that he would like you to come with us to London.’ I told him to tell Daddy that it would make me happy and proud.”

Kai was hired by Michael in March 2009. Michael had seen her resume. Michael Williams, Michael’s assistant, called Chase to say that someone wanted to hire her as a personal chef. Until the hiring process was finalized, she didn’t know that the person who hired her was Michael Jackson.

“I couldn’t believe it. I remember asking them, ‘Is there a hidden camera? Are you messing with me, right?’”

She worked for Michael until May, and then took time off. But starting June 2, she resumed her job at Michael’s home. On June 23, Michael told her he was ready to move to London. Only a few days later, the This Is It concerts in that city were set to open. When Michael died on June 25, Kai was busy cooking lunch in the kitchen.

But how was the final decision made to hire Chase?

She says that when she first entered Michael’s home in Holmby Hills, his three children interviewed her.

“They told me they always ate healthy food and they wanted someone to cook healthy meals for them.”

Once the three gave the green light, Kai was able to start her job at home. She describes her relationship with Michael’s children as excellent.

Michael cared about meals with the family and ate lunch and dinner at the table with his three children. Paris always read a prayer and gave thanks before eating.

After a few weeks of cooking all kinds of healthy dishes, Kai suggested that Michael add some variety to the lunch and dinner menu. Michael agreed, but as the concert opening day approached, the healthy foods returned to the dinner and lunch menu.

“He was a dancer, and he didn’t want to eat anything that would cause stomachaches or discomfort while he was dancing.”
