A Child Suspended From School for Dancing

Over the past week, a school’s decision to prevent one of its students from attending class became very newsworthy. The “crime” was that Lenny, this 9-year-old boy, performed Michael Jackson’s famous dance move, the crotch grab.

Mindy Boberger, the child’s mother, is furious about the school’s behavior and says her son’s heart is broken. Last Thursday evening, during a charity event, Lenny performed Michael’s song on stage. Over the past two years, he had always performed this song at the event and had never faced any problems or objections—until this year, when she was shocked to see the principal’s reaction.

Peter Bowlin, principal of St. Stanislaus Catholic Elementary School (St. Stanislaus) in the U.S. state of Massachusetts, yelled at little Lenny and called his move “ugly.”

On her Facebook page, Lenny’s mother wrote: “He worked very hard for this performance, and then he watched the principal yell at him. He has been barred from attending class and received a suspension order. They even refuse to meet with us.”

Mrs. Boberger doesn’t know why the principal behaved this way. She says that over the past two years, Lenny had been performing the same dance on stage. In addition, during Tuesday’s rehearsals, the principal had witnessed his dance.

In an odd move, the principal apologized to the school’s employees, the teachers, and the parents of the students by sending letters about the behavior of this 9-year-old child! He avoided speaking with the media and described the issue as an internal problem. He is expected to meet with Lenny’s parents today or tomorrow.
