Michael Jackson’s Children Will Record His Hand and Footprints

The Michael Jackson Foundation today announced that, in order to honor him on January 26, during a ceremony starting at 11:00 AM at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, his hand and footprint will be recorded in cement by his three children.

During the ceremony, Prince, Paris, and Blanket will record his imprint in cement using their father’s symbolic gloves and his moonwalker shoes (Moonwalker). Cirque du Soleil will also be present to celebrate the opening of the Immortal tour in Los Angeles with a show. The ceremony will be streamed live on the internet.

Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is one of the attractions on Hollywood Boulevard. It was built in 1926 and opened a year later. Cement imprints of many legendary artists—including Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, and Sidney Poitier—are kept in this theater.

Michael Jackson’s star is located on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in front of this theater. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is situated on Hollywood Boulevard between Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, California, USA, and more than 2,400 five-point stars bearing the names of celebrities from the entertainment and arts industries are inscribed on it.

This walkway was opened in 1958. Michael Jackson was the first person to earn two stars on this walkway. Besides Michael, only five other people managed to register two stars: John Lennon, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. Paul McCartney is expected to join this group one day.
