Michael Jackson Week on The X Factor With His Children (Photo and Video)
Last week was Michael Jackson Week on the talent show The X Factor, and on Wednesday night, November 30, contestants took the stage to perform Michael Jackson songs.
This year, the Jackson family were also special guests. Three of Michael’s brothers—Jackie, Marlon, and Tito—appeared on stage, and Jackie introduced their mother Katherine and Michael’s three children. The show’s judges—Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid, and Nicole Scherzinger—stood and applauded them. The Jackson family sat in the front row, and you could see John Branca, head of the Michael Jackson Foundation, in the second row behind them. The show was supported by the Foundation.
After the program ended, the host asked Katherine and Michael’s children to share their thoughts about the performances. Katherine said the performances were fantastic and that Michael would be proud of them. Prince said the show was very well produced and the performances were great. Paris also said the show was definitely amazing.
That night, Melanie Amaro, the 19-year-old singer, performed Earth Song, and Simon Cowell praised her performance like this:
“I can’t imagine a better tribute to one of the greatest artists in the history of the world.”
After her performance, Melanie said backstage: “I felt like Michael was there through his family, and that he was extremely proud.”
Other contestants performed Can You Feel It, Billie Jean, PYT, Black or White, Dirty Diana, and I’ll Be There.
Drew, who had sung Billie Jean accompanied by piano, said that performing in front of the Jackson family was very anxiety-inducing:
“Up until an hour before the ceremony, we didn’t know that the Jackson family would be here. When I found out, I told myself I shouldn’t mess it up.”
Josh, who performed Dirty Diana, added that the presence of the Jackson family was an honor for them.
The results of the public vote were announced on Thursday night, and Drew, who sang Billie Jean, and Astro, who sang Black or White, were eliminated.
