Michael Jackson Has the Best-Selling Tour

In an article titled “Why Does Michael Jackson Have the Best-Selling Tour in America Again?” Forbes wrote:

“Sammy Davis, Jr. (the late American entertainer who died in 1990) once said: ‘Whatever Michael Jackson does on stage is exactly right.’ Of course, it’s difficult to fill the shoes of the King of Pop, but considering the audience reactions to Cirque du Soleil shows at Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, the Immortal tour has done an impressive job. For the second consecutive week, Immortal was the best-selling live show in the United States and sold $2 million a night in Las Vegas. The tour, which opened in Canada two months ago, has earned $100 million so far. Immortal has been more successful than Taylor Swift’s tour, which played in much larger stadiums.

Cirque du Soleil will leave Las Vegas soon and continue its American tour. In late 2012, Immortal will travel to other countries around the world, and then it will become a permanent show in Las Vegas.

Immortal is the result of a collaboration between the Michael Jackson Foundation and Cirque du Soleil. Acrobats and dancers bring performances to the stage based on Michael Jackson’s songs, dance moves, and music video clips.

In the shows, elements from a farm and Michael’s house, Neverland, are also used. For example, the tree on which Michael built a song is recreated on stage, and the enormous entrance doors of Neverland are rebuilt as well. In addition, some stage performers in animal costumes from his zoo and his pet chimpanzee Bubbles perform on stage.”

Gregg Fieldingans, the music director of Immortal, said: “We put all our effort into showing the essence of his art in his absence. His love for people and his sense of humanitarianism, his commitment to doing everything the best way possible, his ability to create big shows... We tried to bring all these elements into the performances.”
