War on Conrad Murray’s Front
As over the coming days, witnesses for Conrad Murray’s defense team are expected to be called to the stand, two of his lawyers have gotten into a fight with each other.
Since the beginning of the trial, they had been living together in one house to save on their client’s costs, but now they have separated. Chernoff, who lives in Houston, Texas, has been staying at Michael Flanagan’s house during this time. It’s said that about a week ago, after an argument with Flanagan, Chernoff left his house and moved to a hotel in Santa Monica.
Flanagan, when questioning the prosecution’s witnesses, had broken many viewers’ nerves on television and bored them. Chernoff isn’t satisfied with his performance. He also feels that in some cases Flanagan made the prosecutor’s job easier by bringing up certain points.
For example, once Flanagan asked an emergency doctor whether if Dr. Murray had alerted emergency services at 12:00 instead of 12:20, would Michael Jackson have lived? The witness’s answer was yes.
Last week, when Chernoff personally took over questioning the prosecution witness, Dr. Steven Shafer, it surprised many people. Sources say this happened while Flanagan had been working on the plan for questioning Shafer for the past 4 months and was supposed to handle the questioning himself when Shafer took the stand.
But Chernoff is the senior lawyer and the leader of the team, and the decision is up to him. Sources say the two lawyers rarely exchange words.
Last week, the judge, while scolding the defense team, scheduled a hearing for November 16 to address the violation by their witness, Dr. Paul White.
It has been said that White, in a television interview, referred to prosecutor Walgren as “trash.” In court, Chernoff turned pale when he realized his most important witness had said such a thing.
However, there is also a third lawyer on Murray’s team named Narg Gorgian, who is rarely mentioned in the media. He was an assistant to Michael’s former lawyer, Mark Geragos, in the 2003 case. During Murray’s trial sessions, Gorgian keeps his head down and doesn’t get involved in the fight.
