Billboard poll results: Michael Jackson’s works among the top 5 music videos of three decades

Some time ago, Billboard—on the occasion of MTV turning 30—set up a poll to choose the best music videos from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s.

Michael Jackson’s "Thriller" short film won the poll for the 1980s. Madonna’s Like a Prayer and Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Want to Have Fun placed second and third.

Billboard wrote about Thriller:

If there were awards for best music video in 1983, MTV would have had to create a separate category just for the culture-making, innovative video Thriller. It’s no surprise that this video won several awards a year after its release, after MTV’s music video awards were introduced. Now, 30 years later, Thriller is still at the top of what people watch, and in our poll it has topped the results with 65% of the votes. It’s not only that he’s the King of Pop—he’s also the King of music videos.

For the best video of the 1990s, people voted for Britney Spears’ Baby One More Time, and of course Scream—the duet video by Michael Jackson and his sister Janet—came in second.

But for the 2000s, Lady Gaga leads with Bad Romance, and Michael’s You Rock My World came in fourth.
