Disagreement in the Jackson Family Over Holding a Concert

Yesterday, Catherine Jackson, Michael’s mother, and her children Latoya, Tito, Jackie, and Marlon held a press conference and announced that they would organize a tribute concert for Michael. The concert will be held on October 8 at the 75,000-seat Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Wales.

So far, the names of the artists who will perform at the concert have not been announced. Catherine says it is a celebration worthy of a king.

Chris Hunt, manager of Global Live (the concert’s sponsor), says that all proceeds from the concert will be donated to charities in the United States and the United Kingdom, including the Prince of Wales Cancer Foundation.

Tito, Michael’s brother, says: “I know my brother would have been proud to see the artists he inspired come together and watch their performances.”

Hunt paid a $100,000 check to the fund for Michael Jackson’s three children, who will be able to use it in 21 years.

But Jermaine and Randy, Michael’s brothers, oppose this plan. They were not present at the conference, and yesterday they published the following statement on their Twitter:

“Today’s press conference announced that the Jackson family will hold a tribute concert for Michael. But we want to make it clear that this is not a decision made by all family members.

Although we sincerely support a concert that honors our brother’s memory, we cannot take sides with such an event while the murder trial is underway. As you know, the trial begins on September 20, and this concert is scheduled for October 8 in Cardiff, Wales, UK. We think it’s not appropriate to participate in an event with such an unfortunate timing.

On the other hand, the decision to hold this concert is disrespectful to the enthusiasm we showed in April in response to the proposal to hold a concert that had entered serious stages with Global Live (the concert sponsor).

The right time for a grand memorial ceremony worthy of Michael will come. But at this time, we believe the most important thing we can do for our brother is to seek justice.”
