What’s happening with the Michael Jackson museum in Gary?

Long before Michael Jackson’s death, the city of Gary—where his family’s hometown is, and which they left in 1969—had put the construction of a museum to honor the Jackson family on the municipal agenda. After Michael’s death, enthusiasm intensified, and dreams for establishing a hotel-casino, a cultural center, and a museum of the Jackson family’s history became even more ambitious. Last June, on the first anniversary of Michael’s death, his family and the mayor of Gary met to build a Michael Jackson art complex with a $300 million budget. But now, after a year has passed, the project has not made much progress. Reports say the project will not be eligible for tax exemptions.
