Michael’s Lost Photos to Save the World

An inventor from Los Angeles, who had made Michael Jackson—the future King of Pop—the subject of his photographs when he was 19, believes he has found a way to solve the world’s energy problem—using Michael Jackson’s lost photos that nobody, not even himself, had known about for years.

Reginald Garcia, who has earned money from selling these 130 never-before-published photo pieces, is now looking to raise the cash needed for the experimental production of his electric motors—motors he says produce more than they consume, and serve the environment.

The photos in question show a teenage Michael Jackson and his brothers during the recording of a video in March 1978 at a studio in Hollywood.

According to a collector who had sold photos of Michael to Michael himself, Michael didn’t really care for the African-style hairstyle and the American 1970s outfits. After moving on from that era, he no longer had interest in his old photos and preferred that nobody see them. Based on this, Garcia says that if Michael were alive, he would have gone to him—and he’s sure Michael would have bought all the photos.

But now that Michael is gone, this responsibility falls to the Kia Morgan Gallery. That way, Garcia can sell not only the original versions of the photos, but also their prints and contact sheets.

Garcia says that two months ago he rummaged through his locked drawers looking for a trace of something valuable to sell. Today, he remembers the 1978 shoots.

"He was the greatest human being you could ever talk to."

Garcia was a California student and an independent photographer when one of his sister’s friends—who worked for CBS Records—asked him to go to the Guar studio in Hollywood to photograph the Jackson brothers.

The color photos show Michael and his brothers in a blue taxi cab, standing on a stage while performing. The black-and-white photos were taken during breaks. Garcia explains:

"I sat him in front of a mirror and asked him to pretend to read a letter he had received from his girlfriend."

The photographer says he has recently realized that this photo is an echo of the famous song by this pop superstar: Man In The Mirror.
