Sidney Lumet, director of “The Wiz,” dies

Sidney Lumet, one of the most famous and prolific directors of modern Hollywood cinema, has died today at the age of 86 after battling cancer. During his artistic career, he worked with the biggest actors, made more than 50 films, and was nominated for the Oscar for Best Director four times. In 2005, Lumet received an honorary Oscar in recognition of his services to film and cinema. Among his most notable works are 12 Angry Men (1957) and Dog Day Afternoon (1975), starring Al Pacino. In 1978, Lumet directed the musical “The Wiz.” This film was a version of The Wizard of Oz, featuring Black actors.
