Catherine Jackson’s new flower shop
The online flower shop of Catherine Jackson, sendherflowers.com, will open next Tuesday in honor of Mother’s Day. CNN has taken this opportunity to interview her.
Michael’s mother, who is a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, considers celebrating to be forbidden for her, but she believes in the magic of flowers. She says that sending a bouquet of flowers to a mother makes her heart happy.
“That means love. It means that today I was thinking of you and I sent these flowers to you. When your times are bitter, getting a few fresh flower stems cheers you up.”
The flowers she likes most are yellow and white roses. In her interview with CNN, she said that flowers make her happy, but she has no interest in saying what is currently tightening her creative space.
Catherine says she is terrified of sitting in court to handle the murder case of her son Michael, which is set to begin on May 9. But she will be there, and she will listen to the testimonies that will be given about her son’s death. The judge has recently allowed photos of Michael’s autopsy to be shown in court.
With distress, Catherine says: “A mother’s job is never finished.”
The cameras go silent for a moment, and Catherine uses this opportunity to express her anger about media coverage of Michael’s life and death, as well as events inside the Jackson family. For example, she says that she and her husband Joe—after 61 years of marriage—are still in love, even though Catherine went as far as divorce twice years ago. Joe has not lived with her for a long time, and he has been living in an apartment in Las Vegas with a daughter he has with another woman. This house was given to her by Jannet, Michael’s sister.
Catherine says that in court she sits next to her husband and sometimes holds his hand.
After 40 years, she has recently left the large mansion in Encino and moved, along with Michael’s three children, to a newly renovated mansion in the affluent Hilltop area of Calabasas, Los Angeles. The famous Heunearst house needs renovation, and the Michael Jackson Foundation is busy working on the home. Although Catherine says she might not go back there anymore.
The cameras return, and Catherine now talks about the duty of motherhood:
“The most important duty is that of the day. A mother must always be there to help her children. She must always know where her children are and what they are doing. She must make sure that her ‘yeses’ mean yes and her ‘noes’ mean no. She must raise her children this way.”
And finally...
“It’s the mother who keeps the family united and together.”
