Roger Friedman: The Michael Album Is Really Good

The Michael album is out—and it’s really good. I got a copy of it today. Guess what happened? A Manhattan electronics store had put this album up for sale by mistake. It arrived a week early—“Too Soon” (the name of a song from the album). Anyway, I pointed it out to them and they took the album down. Of course, I didn’t buy the album—I went to buy a camera. The best things on this album: Breaking News is excellent. It’s all Michael’s voice. The new mix shows Michael’s vocals more than the previous version. It’s a very good song. Two other tracks that were worked on at the Casios’ home—Keep Your Head Up and Monster (the “Monster”)—are expected to be released as singles. Monster will become a number-one monster. Other songs are Another Day and I Like the Way You Love Me, and the latter is a different version of an older work (it appeared on the Ultimate Collection). And there’s also an audio piece of Michael talking about the work. That one will definitely be a favorite on radio stations. And Behind the Mask… considering all the fights and controversies he caused, I was surprised to hear Taryl Jackson’s voice (Michael’s nephew) on this track. (1) The album includes: “Dedicated to Michael’s children, Katherine Jackson, and all the Jackson family.” (1) Roger Friedman listed the title incorrectly. He meant Hollywood Tonight.
