Howard Mann’s Statement About Opis None

Howard Mann released a mix of the old song Destiny as a never-released song on his joint site with Catherine Jackson, Michael’s mother, and had falsely claimed that Catherine supported the whole thing. Now he has issued a statement:

“I sincerely apologize to the Jackson family, Michael’s fans, and TMZ for my ignorance and stupidity. Our goal in releasing Opis None was to satisfy the fans with a song that people around the world would confirm as Michael’s voice with certainty. Although fans realized after hearing 15 seconds of the song that it’s a remix of Destiny, damage had already been done. Mrs. Jackson not only hadn’t given permission to release the song, she wasn’t even aware of it. This was all my personal stupidity. We found this song in the archive and saw that Michael didn’t have a song called Opis None, and we assumed it was an unreleased track.”

As for the song name, this explanation isn’t too bad: Opis (Opis) was the name of a city in Babylonian civilization—near what is today Baghdad. In his column, Roger Freedman wrote that there’s a spelling mistake in the song title and it should be Opus, which may be a mistake he made himself as well.
