Cirque du Soleil Presents: Michael Jackson’s Immortal World Tour

Earlier this April, Cirque du Soleil announced that, with a contract signed with the Michael Jackson Foundation, it would bring stage shows using the King of Pop’s songs and videos.

Ticket sales for these shows begin tomorrow. Tickets will be sold simultaneously in 25 cities. It is said these will be the biggest Cirque du Soleil shows in North America and around the world, running for four consecutive years—two years in North America and two years in cities elsewhere. In 2013, a permanent show will also be staged in Las Vegas.

Cirque du Soleil has earmarked $100 million for the production of these two projects and says an additional $150 million will be added later. Before the tour begins, these shows will be performed twice nightly for two months starting December 15, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Casino Hotel in Las Vegas.

In the Cirque du Soleil shows, videos featuring Michael will be used, and perhaps he may even appear on stage personally with his new technologies. Some of the videos Michael had planned to use in his This Is It tour will also be featured in the Cirque du Soleil performances.

The Michael Jackson Foundation fully supports these shows, and Cirque du Soleil is very pleased about that. Each show lasts 90 minutes, uses more than 20 King of Pop songs, and features 72 dancers, musicians, and acrobatic performers. Cirque du Soleil’s challenge will be to create a “Michael” atmosphere on stage. They want to bring the vibe of Michael Jackson’s concerts to life.
