AP’s Review of Michael Jackson’s Vision Collection

A music critic at the Associated Press, in a review of Michael Jackson’s new collection, Vision, wrote: Michael Jackson has given meaning to the world of music videos so much that we recognize each one in our hearts and souls. Even though Thriller, Beat It, and Smooth Criminal are incredibly astonishing, they are only part of the vast and extraordinary collection of his videos. Vision (Vision), with more than 40 videos including lesser-seen works, along with three discs and a booklet, is an effort to visualize his genius in the realm of performing arts. Die-hard fans will surely complain that the long version of Smooth Criminal is not included in this collection. And from the film Ghosts, only a short clip has been added. There’s no sign of Captain EO either. But in return, The Way You Make Me Feel—with its introduction—and Black Or White—with its ending—are included. His early videos, such as She's Out of My Life, which still don’t have any sign of Michael Jackson’s magic, are also part of the collection. But when he began to work his wonders—the thing he did with Billie Jean—nobody was disappointed. For example, the full version of the Bad video, which is included in the collection, is unique. In the final years of his career, we see the weight of the world and the wounds of life in him. Maybe that’s why the video One More Chance is so moving. It seems that, tired and disgusted by the presence of cameras, he decides that the people he wants to reach—his audience—should be the stars of this video.
