The Most Downloaded Support Song for an Artist
“The Michael Jackson Anthem” was released on November 22, 2003 by a collective effort led by an Indian Michael Jackson fan, as a defense of Michael against allegations of child abuse. The song—Michael’s first support song—has been downloaded 1.6 million times from the internet, and Guinness World Records has called it the most downloaded support song by an artist. However, because there was no internet download category, the song did not receive a Guinness plaque.
The song was created and arranged in just two days, and fans had to borrow money from local businessmen to cover the production costs.
A line from the song says: “We’re not just his fans; we are his shield and sword.” And elsewhere it calls Michael “an angel in disguise.”
