Michael’s Mother Sues AEG

Yesterday, Michael’s mother, Catherine Jackson, filed a lawsuit against AEG and Kenny Ortega, the director of the concerts and also the director of the film This Is It, which was made from Michael’s rehearsals. AEG was supposed to be the organizer of 50 Michael Jackson concerts in London under the title “This Is It Tour.” Catherine, who is the guardian of Michael’s three children, also signed the lawsuit on their behalf. Recently, a local British newspaper, quoting the doctor accused of Michael’s murder, Conrad Murray, wrote that if AEG had provided the necessary equipment he requested for the care of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop would be alive today. In her lawsuit, Catherine said: “AEG was responsible for protecting Michael Jackson’s health. But regardless of his health condition, they put his life at risk only to profit from the concerts. Because of AEG’s actions and negligence, three children lost their father, their mother lost her son, and their siblings lost their brother—and the world lost the most famous entertainer.” Joe Jackson also accused the company of negligence in protecting his son’s life in his lawsuit. Joe claims that AEG assigned Dr. Murray to inject medication into Michael Jackson and refused to provide the life-saving medical equipment and to hire a nurse to help Murray. In response to a similar claim that had been raised earlier, AEG said that Conrad Murray had requested this equipment for their stay in London during the tour—not for the time when Michael was still living in the United States. The company also said it never signed a contract with Murray. In fact, Michael died before the contract to hire Murray was signed. Murray injected a large amount of propofol last year on June 25, causing Michael’s death. This anesthetic drug is used in hospital operating rooms.
