A look behind the scenes of Captain E.O.

Behind the scenes of Walt Disney stories that were never told—without censorship and without passing through the official filter of approval and censorship—are finally being released. This book, written by the well-known Disney author and historian Jim Korkis, is called The Walt Disney Storybook. Korkis has spent more than thirty years writing Disney history, making him a living encyclopedia.

But the interesting point for Michael Jackson fans is something else. One of the book’s several stories is an account featuring Michael Jackson’s performance in the late 1980s. Disney’s “The Walt Disney Storybook” is the only book that describes the complete process of producing, filming, and the imaginative three-dimensional presentation of Captain E.O.—told by people who worked closely with Michael 24 years ago. In an email, Jim Korkis reassures everyone that they won’t find a more complete story anywhere else.

Jeff Hornaday, the choreographer of this film, said: “At first, I let Michael improvise his dancing. Then I guided that same dance in a direction that could be performed by 40 dancers. Michael had everything in his hands—he was a musician, a choreographer, a dancer, a singer, an actor... and in short, he had control over everything. His enthusiasm for this film was incomparable to the feelings of anyone else.”
