Fans in the Mirror: A Book for Michael
Fans In The Mirror is a virtual book created using messages from fans on the website to produce a portrait of Michael Jackson titled “Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait.”
The goal of this site is to collect one million dots to complete a portrait of Michael Jackson. The project was started last year, after Michael’s death, as a tribute from his fans. Each fan who joins the site receives a number that corresponds to the dot assigned to them in this portrait. Artist David Elan completes the portrait by placing these dots side by side.
The number of 222 messages and countless pieces of artwork that fans have posted on this website are compiled into a book that is being sold, and the profits are used to cover the costs of the portrait site.
The founders of the website said that collecting a very large number of Michael’s fans after his death in a warm and friendly environment was one of the most important goals of this project.
Many fans who are members of this site have written about their feelings of loneliness and how they couldn’t get their loved ones to understand them. After Michael’s death, they felt they had lost a member of their family—or part of themselves.
And from these deep feelings and sacrifices, new artistic talents have blossomed among the fans.
Michael Jackson fans’ messages, beyond their sadness and grief, show their power and determination to continue his path toward peace and universal love.
Since the website was launched last year, many people have been able to find good friends on the other side of the world. The site has grown so much that it is referred to as a “Michael Jackson-only Facebook.”
In its introduction of this book, the website includes quotes from fans:
